Project Content
The Berlin-Brandenburg Office for Everyday Culture is a research section of the Institute for European Ethnology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It is responsible for outreach, mediation, and collaborations across the fields of ethnography, heritage, and collections research between Berlin and Brandenburg institutions. It also coordinates the archives and collections of the Institute for European Ethnology, which cover a wide range of multimedia material from the 1920s to today.

Tasks for Interns
The internship in the Office for Everyday Culture would assist in basic archival research and assembly work: at the moment, the collections of the archives are in a process of consolidation and inventorisation, hence your activities would vary from organising, finding, inventorising to digitising documents and materials. We are in the process of creating an expanded inventory of the archives of the Institute for European Ethnology, so your work would be essential in helping consolidate the archive and discovering gaps and creating an expanded online presence. The Office for Everyday Culture also operates in a curatorial way; that is, it organizes exhibitions and public events, in which you could help with coordination and planning.

Academic Level
  • Advanced undergraduate students (from the second year)
  • Master’s students
  • Doctoral candidates
Requirements
Some prior experience in the use of archival materials is recommended but not necessary. Basic knowledge of German is helpful, but not essential.
