Project Content
We conduct crop research with the goal of developing strategies to produce healthy food despite the challenges climate change produces, and with ecological aspects in mind.
At the moment, we especially focus on chickpeas and how they can be introduced in Germany and on rye and other cereals, and how climate change and fertilization change their nutritional values and yields. Furthermore, our field experiments include maize, potatoes, and different kinds of legumes, and we are experts in research regarding root development and plant-soil organisms interactions.
Tasks for Interns
Assistance with our research projects:
Laboratory work,
Take soil and plant samples,
Wash and analyze roots,
Harvest of different crops,
Prepare experiments in the greenhouse,
Support with the planning and evaluation of field and greenhouse experiments.
Possibly: collaboration with the phytomedicine department.
You could make a small personal experiment in the greenhouse, preferably with a little planning/contact in advance before the beginning of the stay.
Academic Level
Advanced undergraduate students (from second year)
Master's students
Requirements
Preferably, you should study agriculture, horticulture, or something related.
You should be outdoor-compatible (sun, rain, dust, heat... are part of the job).
